Climate Data
We love climate data! It gives us the power to move our arguments forward and provide a local commentary on the climate crisis. This localised data helps to drive evidence-based climate action in our communities.
We use these three websites as a source of all things climate. The beauty of these sites is that you can retrieve data for Edinburgh, or dial right into your neighbourhood.

Data for Climate Action Edinburgh
The aim of this report is to present key data on climate action happening, and climate impacts on, the city of Edinburgh in Scotland.
D4CAE are a small voluntary local group aligned to ECCAN and a network member. The scope of this report is modest, addressing a handful of aspects of climate action and climate impacts in the city. This year’s report, being the very first year, in some ways focuses mainly on finding and documenting data sources, and establishing tools for data extraction, and establishing baselines for some data.
The Met Office Local Authority Climate Explorer
This tool allows you to explore local climate information and to understand how global climate change may affect your area.
UK Climate Opinion Maps
From the Yale Programme of Climate Change Communication, comes up-to-date data about how we feel about climate change across the UK. And guess what? The public are much more worried about it than our media or politicians acknowledge. When evidencing your need for impact, this is an excellent baseline to present to funders.
LCAT Local Climate Adaption Tool
Use this tool to see what the scientific research is saying about how local climates will change, what health and community impacts may occur, who will be at risk, and what adaptations to consider.
Google Environmental Insights Explorer
Environmental Insights Explorer (EIE) is a freely available data and insights tool that uses exclusive data sources and modelling capabilities to help cities and regions measure emissions sources, run analyses, and identify strategies to reduce emissions — creating a foundation for effective action. Note this requires signing up to the service.
We put new climate data discoveries in our monthly members’ newsletter. Join ECCAN to get the latest updates. If you’d like to let us know about new resources, get in touch here.
