Climate Ready South East Scotland: Shareback event
Climate Ready South East Scotland (CRSES) published the first climate risk and opportunity assessment for the Edinburgh and South East Scotland city region in April 2025. By working together with hundreds of organisations and communities in phase 1 of the project, they now have a better understanding of how climate change will affect our region, and where we need to prioritise adaptation action together to minimise risks and maximise opportunities.
Phase 2 of CRSES is now underway and activities planned for this year will take us from risk assessment results to delivering collaborative climate resilience action on the ground
This informal webinar is a chance to learn more about the key findings from the climate risk and opportunity assessment, the collaboration's priorities for 2025-26 and how you can get involved in robust, collaborative climate resilience action within our region.
Join Verture and their Local Authority partners for this informative and hands-on session, and help Edinburgh and South East Scotland become more resilient to the impacts of climate change.
Please note that this session is being recorded.
How you can help
Please join them, and share this invitation with your contacts.
The context
Edinburgh and South East Scotland's climate is already changing, and will continue to do so for decades after we reach net zero GHG emisisons. This means more extreme weather; hotter, drier, summers; wetter winters; more unpredictable seasons and rainfall, super-charged storms and rising sea levels.
These changes will affect our communities, and the places we care about – where we live, work and play. They will also affect the natural world, and the systems that we rely on, from transport, to food supply. We need to become more resilient to the impacts of climate change to ensure that our region can prosper, and that all our communities and places can flourish. To find out about how climate change impacts are already affecting communities and places in Edinburgh and South East Scotland visit our project Story Map to hear from those being impacted today.
Funders
The project is being delivered as part of the Regional Prosperity Framework, with support from Capital City Partnership. The project is funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and Scottish Government.

Public diners conference: From idea to reality
Join Nourish Scotland for their second public diners conference.
This year, they’re going international: Nourish Scotland will draw inspiration from people making public diners happen in other countries, and connect with a growing global movement working to make nutritious, delicious, low-cost food available to everyone.
Together, they’ll consider what it would take to embed public diners in Scotland and explore the role state-supported restaurants could play in delivering the Good Food Nation ambition — and how they might become a powerful intervention in reshaping our food system. The work of this conference will also inform the next steps for the public restaurant test site in Dundee.
Whether you’re a food activist, policymaker, practitioner or citizen, come and be part of shaping the future of public diners.
Note: They don’t want cost to be a barrier. If ticket price is an issue, e-mail Josie [josie@nourishscotland.org.uk] for a free code - no questions asked.

EcoMax 7: James Lovelock & the Ecology of Gaia
Do you understand the relevance of Gaia Theory and how it can help us address our current omni-crisis?
SEDA & GAIA RESEARCH
“ Gaia Theory is now a cornerstone of Earth system science. Its primary proposition – that atmospheric gasses are biologically maintained – is widely accepted. Another of its central arguments – that the Earth functions like a homeostatic cybernetic system – has paved the way for research into tipping points, such as the loss of polar ice sheets, the dieback of rainforests or the slowdown of ocean currents, that might push this system dangerously out of equilibrium.” – Jonathan Watts
Jonathan Watts, James Lovelock’s biographer, will be speaking at this event on August 9th about Gaia Theory, which invites us to think of the Earth as a living organism and recognise the interdependence of all its inhabitants.
The event is in person only and tea/coffee will be provided. Please e-mail the organisers with any questions, dietary and access requirements.

Edinburgh Greentech Meetup: Digital Solutions for a Circular Economy
Join them for breakfast, coffee, and great conversation with fantastic people from the Greentech community.
In this engaging session, they’ll unpack the concept of circularity—whether you’re new to it or need a quick refresher—and then dive into the real-world role of digital technology in making it a reality. Using practical examples across industries and regions, they’ll explore how software is enabling businesses to move toward more sustainable, circular models. We’ll also examine the risks, challenges, and unexpected consequences that arise along the way.
They’re excited to welcome Barry O'Kane, founder of HappyPorch, a software development company dedicated to driving the circular economy. With over 20 years of experience as a software engineer, leader, and entrepreneur, Barry and his team are passionate about using intelligent, purpose-driven tech to tackle global challenges and create real impact.
Join them to learn, ask questions, and get inspired by what’s possible at the intersection of digital innovation and sustainability.
This event is open to anyone with an interest in sustainability or greentech, and you’ll have the opportunity to meet other people in the space and get to know the Edinburgh Greentech community.

They encourage you to attend using public transport or active travel means; the venue has extremely limited parking and is a 5 minute walk from the Cameron Toll shopping centre.
