Understanding Heat Networks Webinar

As the global climate crisis worsens, what can Scotland’s tenement owners do to curb our reliance on fossil fuels and heat our homes in more sustainable ways?

As the price of energy continues to rise, how can we bring down the cost of heating our tenement buildings, for owners and tenants alike?

Heat networks are a clean heating source which uses hot water from a central source, such as a nearby power station or data centre, to heat entire buildings without the need for individual boilers.

In this webinar, Under One Roof will partner with the heat network experts at Vattenfall, ECCAN and Saltire Square & Saltire Street Residents’ Association to explore the basics of how heat networks work, and how they could be used in tenement buildings across Scotland. Together, we’ll discuss some of the barriers tenement owners might face when installing a heat network, and how these issues might be resolved.

Our speakers will be:

·       Ben Carter, Account Director for Vattenfall’s Business Development team in Scotland, working to expand access to fairly priced, low carbon heat in Midlothian and surrounding areas through the MEL heat network. With experience in district heating since 2016 and renewables since 2010, he collaborates closely with housebuilders, developers and public partners to grow the MEL heat network and support Scotland’s transition to low carbon, climate‑resilient communities.

·       Kaz Lyon, Energy Lead at Edinburgh Communities Climate Action Network

·       Catherine Wicks, Chair of Saltire Square & Saltire Street Residents’ Association
