Oyster Power -Restoring Reefs
Oysters are more than a seafood delicacy - they are powerful ecosystem engineers. By restoring oyster reefs, Edinburgh Shoreline not only bring back a lost natural resource but also revive habitats that support incredible biodiversity. These living structures filter water, store carbon, and provide shelter and food for countless marine species.
In this event, you'll hear engaging talks from academics at Heriot-Watt University, who will share why restoring oysters is so important and how these humble shellfish are the building blocks for enhancing biodiversity.
You will also hear from the Forth Marine Hatchery, an innovative native oyster hatchery in East Lothian, working with Restoration Forth to help upscale native oyster production for restoration in the Firth of Forth, while reducing biosecurity and invasive species risks.
This event shall run from 6.30pm to 9.00pm
