Greenlight 2026–27 is now OPEN

Today we’re excited to launch GreenLight 2026–27 - our annual seed grant programme supporting community-led climate action across Edinburgh. The fund is open to local groups, organisations and residents developing projects that respond to the climate crisis in their communities.

Since launching, Greenlight has supported a wide range of projects across the city - from community growing and biodiversity work to repair initiatives, youth projects, creative engagement and local resilience building.

This year’s fund includes an important change to the application process designed to make Greenlight simpler and more accessible for smaller grassroots projects.

Projects requesting under £5,000 will no longer go through community voting, allowing for a faster and more straightforward route for smaller grants. These applications will instead be assessed directly by ECCAN through two rolling decision rounds across the year.

Projects requesting £5,001 – £20,000 will continue to be decided through a community voting process involving ECCAN members.

This year, ECCAN is particularly keen to support:

  • youth-led projects

  • projects that widen access and participation in climate action

  • climate adaptation and resilience initiatives

We’re also particularly interested in projects that bring people together. Collaborative applications are encouraged, particularly for larger grants, and projects that build connections across communities, neighbourhoods and ECCAN members will be viewed positively.

Greenlight 2026–27 includes two funding routes:

Micro & Medium Grants (£250–£5,000)

No community vote required. Applications reviewed on a rolling basis.

Major Project Grants (£5,001–£20,000)

Community voted. Intended for larger-scale collaborative projects with strong community benefit.

Applications are open to ECCAN membersacross Edinburgh, including community groups, charities, CICs, social enterprises and informal groups applying through a partner organisation.

We’ll also be running online and in-person applicant surgeries from mid-May onwards to support groups through the process, develop ideas and ask questions.

All funded projects must be completed by 31st March 2027.

Applications are now open - find out more below and apply!
