Join Our Creative Writing Workshops: Explore Climate Change Through Story!
Are you over 18 and living in Scotland? Do you find yourself pondering, worrying about, or imagining our collective climate future?
ECCAN is delighted to partner with the University of Glasgow on an exciting research project that uses the power of creative writing to explore how people in Scotland truly feel about climate change and its effect on our emotional wellbeing.
This is your chance to turn your experiences, worries, and uncertainties into meaningful stories—and you don't need any prior writing experience or extensive knowledge about climate change to take part!
Creative Writing Workshops with ECCAN
Join a free, supportive series of six workshops designed to guide you through short, engaging creative writing exercises. These sessions offer a safe, relaxed space for reflection and imagination, allowing you to develop written work that reflects your personal connection to this immense environmental challenge.
When: Six consecutive Thursdays, 6-8pm, starting January 22nd and finishing February 26th, 2026.
Where: At the ECCAN premises in Edinburgh.
What to expect: Short writing prompts, guidance from a professional writer, and optional opportunities to share and discuss your work in a friendly group setting.
You’ll also be asked to meet the researcher for a quick (45 minute) online interview before and after the workshop series.
Meet the Facilitator
The workshops will be led by writer and PhD researcher Rhiannon Bull from the University of Glasgow, whose research explores climate change and creative writing.
Rhiannon says, "This project is about accessing public understanding of climate change differently. We want to know how people in Scotland vision climate futures and how they relate emotionally to climate change. We are curious about whether writing can be a powerful means of coming to terms with this immense environmental challenge."
Beyond the Workshops: Submit Your Story!
The workshops are part of a wider research call for short creative writing pieces (up to 1,000 words, fiction or nonfiction) from people across Scotland. All stories will contribute to the research and may feature in public reports, exhibitions, or a final anthology.
