Book Talk: Alasdair Skelton - Our Time: Finding Hope in a Climate Crisis

  • ECCI Conference Room, Edinburgh Climate Change Institute, High School Yards Edinburgh, Scotland, EH1 1LZ United Kingdom (map)

Join the Edinburgh Climate Change Institute for a special book talk with author Alasdair Skelton to celebrate his new book Our Time: Finding Hope in a Climate Crisis.

In this event, Skelton will explore the story of our planet’s climate across deep time and what it means for the present moment. Drawing on his work as a geologist and climate scientist, he traces Earth’s four-billion-year history to help us understand how the climate system has evolved and why the climate crisis we face today matters so deeply for the future of life on Earth.

The talk will also reflect on how humanity has become increasingly separated from nature, setting the stage for the industrial era and the environmental challenges we now face. Yet the message of the book is ultimately one of hope and agency — highlighting how scientific understanding, collective action and informed choices can help shape a better future.

Skelton will be joined in conversation by former University writer-in-residence Tracey S. Rosenberg. The event will include a discussion and opportunity to hear more about the ideas behind the book. Copies of Our Time will be available to purchase on the day.
