The results are in: meet this year’s community-chosen Greenlight projects
We’re delighted to announce the three projects selected to receive Greenlight funding through this year’s community vote.
(As you’ll probably know by now…) the Greenlight Fund supports community-led projects that help communities across Edinburgh respond to the climate and nature crisis. This year, projects requesting between £5,001 and £20,000 were decided through a community vote.
Over 500 of you had your say, voting for 22 inspiring community-led climate projects from across Edinburgh. Thank you to everyone who took the time to read the applications and cast a vote. Together, you’ve helped shape the next round of community climate action across the city.
We’re now delighted to introduce the three projects that will be receiving Greenlight funding this year…
🚲 Bikes for Refugees
100 Free Bikes for Mobility & Freedom
Greenlight funding will enable Bikes for Refugees to provide 100 free refurbished bicycles to refugees and people seeking asylum across Edinburgh.
Alongside the bikes themselves, participants will receive volunteer-led repairs, cycling support and opportunities to build practical skills, confidence and community connections. By making cycling more accessible, the project will help remove barriers to affordable, low-carbon travel while supporting independence, wellbeing and stronger communities.
🛠️ Edinburgh Tool Library
Choose L.I.F.E. (Leith Improvements for Edinburgh)
Choose L.I.F.E. will bring people together through a programme of hands-on workshops where participants will learn practical skills, reduce waste and create improvements for shared community spaces.
Using reclaimed materials wherever possible, participants will work together to make planters, benches, bird boxes, bat boxes, little free libraries and other projects chosen by the local community. The programme particularly welcomes people who are new to climate action, helping build confidence, skills and connections while creating lasting benefits for neighbourhoods across Leith.
🌱 Gorgie Community Farm
Growing Together
Growing Together will expand opportunities for people of all ages to connect with nature while learning about sustainable food growing, biodiversity and climate action.
Through practical volunteering, workshops and growing activities, local people will develop new skills, improve habitats for wildlife, strengthen community resilience and help make fresh, locally grown food more accessible.
