Scotland’s Climate Week 2026: Opportunities to Get Involved in Edinburgh
From 28th September to 4th October, Scotland’s Climate Week brings communities and organisations across the country together to celebrate climate action and look at what more we can do.
Reaching Scotland’s climate goals will require change across how we travel, heat our homes, use energy, manage land and resources, and shape our neighbourhoods. It also means making sure the transition is fair, that communities have a say in the decisions affecting them, and that there are meaningful ways for everyone to take part.
Here in Edinburgh, communities are already putting many of these ideas into practice. Across the ECCAN network, our members are creating local energy solutions, sharing and repairing resources, growing food, protecting nature, campaigning for change and finding new ways to bring communities together.
This Climate Week, we’re inviting you to connect with what’s already happening locally, start conversations and find a way to get involved.
What’s happening during Climate Week?
From community energy and political action to land justice, culture and nature, there are plenty of ways to get involved during Scotland’s Climate Week.
Monday 28th September | 6:30pm to 8:30pm
Power Station: Community Film Screening
Watch Power Station, following a community-led effort to bring solar power to a London street and local schools, followed by time to connect and chat.

Breaking Well
A monthly gathering at The Salisbury Centre exploring how we live with the realities of the climate and nature crises, with space to share, reflect and connect.

People’s Emergency Briefing: SCCAN Members Accessible Screening, Online
Join SCCAN for an accessible screening exploring the climate and nature crisis, community-led solutions and what these issues mean for communities across Scotland.

Yes, Your Community Can Power Itself! Online
Explore how communities can develop practical renewable energy projects, with examples and tools for assessing local energy opportunities.
Wednesday 30th September | 10:30am to 3:30pm
Choose L.I.F.E: Leith Improvements For Edinburgh
Join Edinburgh Tool Library for a free community making session, learning practical woodworking skills while creating useful items for local charities and community groups. No previous experience needed.

Speak to Your Politicians: Political Roundtable with ECCAN and Hope for the Future
Join ECCAN and Hope for the Future at Greyfriars Charteris Centre to speak directly with MPs, MSPs and councillors, ask questions and share the issues affecting you and your community.

Climate Action and a World on Fire: Blether Rooms, Online
An online space for conversation and reflection on climate action and the challenges facing communities in a rapidly changing world.

Repair What You Wear – SHRUB Coop
Bring along clothes in need of some TLC and learn how to repair, adjust or upcycle them at this free sewing and mending drop-in at Tollcross Community Centre.

The Medicine Tree: Nick Hayes on Repairing Our Rotten Roots
Join writer, illustrator and land justice campaigner Nick Hayes at Pianodrome Bruntsfield for a discussion exploring land, ownership, nature and belonging.

Gathering Resistance
A free day of conversation and connection in Leith, bringing together communities and organisations working across environmental, social and human rights issues.

Edinburgh Fungi Festival
A weekend celebrating fungi through science, art and local knowledge, with talks, workshops and guided walks at the University of Edinburgh’s Nucleus Building.
Whether it’s asking your representatives a question, learning about community energy, joining a conversation about land and nature, or discovering Edinburgh’s fungi, we hope you’ll find something this Climate Week that sparks your interest and introduces you to a local group, project or idea you didn’t know about before.

Learn simple, practical DIY skills to tackle draughts, reduce heat loss and make your home warmer and more energy efficient with Edinburgh Tool Library.
